1. Natural Gas जमीन के नीचे से निकाली जाती है
Natural gas underground reservoirs से निकाली जाती है। कुछ क्षेत्रों में यह oil fields के साथ भी मिल सकती है। Raw natural gas में methane के अलावा पानी और अन्य unwanted impurities हो सकती हैं।
2. Gas को Clean किया जाता है
Processing facilities में natural gas से पानी, carbon dioxide और अन्य unwanted impurities को आवश्यकतानुसार हटाया जाता है। इससे methane-rich gas तैयार होती है, जिसे आगे processing के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है।
3. Gas को High Pressure पर Compress किया जाता है
Compressor methane-rich gas को high pressure पर compress करता है, जिससे इसे विशेष CNG cylinders में store किया जा सके। कई CNG systems में लगभग 200 bar nominal working pressure सामान्य है, लेकिन actual pressure limits equipment specifications, temperature और applicable standards पर निर्भर करती हैं।
4. CNG Station तक पहुँचती है Gas
Compressed natural gas को उपयुक्त supply system के माध्यम से CNG stations तक पहुँचाया जाता है। वहाँ trained operators विशेष filling equipment की मदद से वाहन के cylinder में CNG भरते हैं।

कार में CNG भरने के बाद engine तक पहुँचने की प्रक्रिया कुछ इस तरह होती है:
Cylinder: High-pressure CNG को store करता है।
Regulator: Gas pressure को system की जरूरत के अनुसार कम करता है।
Air-Fuel Mixing: Gas हवा के साथ उचित अनुपात में मिलती है।
Combustion: Spark plug mixture को ignite करता है।
Piston Movement: Combustion से उत्पन्न force pistons को चलाती है, जिससे इंजन power पैदा करता है और कार चलती है।

CNG का एक महत्वपूर्ण alternative है Bio-CNG, जिसे organic waste जैसे गोबर और food waste से बनाया जा सकता है।
इसकी प्रक्रिया में:
Organic waste से biogas बनाई जाती है।
Biogas को clean और upgrade करके methane-rich gas तैयार की जाती है।
Gas को आवश्यक specifications के अनुसार process और compress किया जाता है।
उपयुक्त standards पूरा करने पर Bio-CNG को vehicle fuel के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है।
मुख्य अंतर: Conventional CNG का source underground natural gas है, जबकि Bio-CNG का source biodegradable waste हो सकता है।
